Lesson 9.2

Sequin Embroidery: Circular Zigzag Filling

In this lesson, you will revisit the previous pattern and transfer only its dots. These points guide a sequence of sequin stitches that alternate between upper and lower positions, forming circular zigzag rounds. Short securing stitches help define each turn, and a final row of sequins completes the motif.

Materials to Prepare

  • Embroidery frame with fabric mounted under tension

  • Printed pattern from the previous lesson

  • Soft pencil

  • Embroidery hook and thread

  • Sequins

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Transfer a pattern using dots rather than continuous lines.

  • Follow dotted guides to create zigzag sequin stitches.

  • Secure each change of direction with a short stitch.

  • Move from one zigzag round to the next.

  • Complete the motif with a finishing row of sequins.

Your Practice

Choose a free space on your frame and copy only the dots from the pattern using a soft pencil. Make a starting lock at one of the upper points.

Move down to the next marked dot, attach a sequin and add a short securing stitch. Then move up with another sequin and secure again. Continue alternating between upper and lower points until the first round is complete.

Move down to begin the next round, attaching and securing a sequin as demonstrated. Repeat the zigzag sequence, using the dots to guide your placement.

Finish by arranging the remaining sequins in a row, following the demonstration.
