Lesson 2.1

Embroidery Frame Setup and Hand Positioning

In this lesson, you will learn how to arrange your embroidery frame for comfortable work and position your hands when using the Aari and French Lunéville techniques. We will explore how threads and decorative materials are supplied in each method, helping you prepare for the practical lessons ahead.

Materials to Prepare

  • Embroidery frame with mounted fabric

  • Lunéville hook

  • Embroidery thread and bobbin

  • Books or boxes to support the frame

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Support your frame at a comfortable working height.

  • Leave enough space for your hand beneath the fabric.

  • Position your hook hand above the frame and your supporting hand below.

  • Understand how decorative materials are supplied in Aari and French Lunéville embroidery.

  • Identify the working side of the fabric for each technique.

Your Practice

Set up your embroidery frame using books or boxes as supports. Check that the frame is stable and that your hand can move comfortably underneath.

Hold the hook above the fabric and position your other hand beneath the frame. Familiarize yourself with supplying materials from above in the Aari method and from below in the French Lunéville method.
