Lesson 5.1
French Lunéville Beadwork: Beginning a Flower Motif
In this lesson, you will begin practising the techniques learned earlier on a flower motif. You will transfer the printed pattern onto the reverse side of your mounted fabric, prepare your threaded beads, and start embroidering from the centre of the flower. The focus is on supplying one bead at a time and repeating the hook movements with control.
Materials to Prepare
Embroidery frame with mounted fabric
Printed flower pattern
Pencil suitable for marking your fabric
Lunéville hook
Pre-threaded beads
Embroidery thread on a bobbin
Scissors
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
Transfer a flower pattern into a corner of your mounted fabric.
Prepare threaded beads on your working thread.
Position the bead supply beneath the frame.
Make a starting lock at the centre of the flower.
Attach beads individually using the French Lunéville technique.
Follow the flower’s traced lines with controlled stitches.
Your Practice
Print the flower pattern and trace it into a corner on the reverse side of your mounted fabric. Transfer your beads onto the working thread and place the bobbin beneath the frame.
Make a starting lock at the centre of the flower. Hold a few beads between your fingers, supply the first bead, and use the hook to catch the thread and draw a loop through the fabric.
Continue along the traced line, supplying one bead for each stitch. Work slowly and focus on coordinating the bead placement with the hook movements.
