Lesson 15.2
Aari Lily Embroidery: Sequin Filling, Beads and Pearls
In this lesson, you will build on the lily embroidery practised earlier, refining sequin placement to fit the shape of each petal. You will learn to recognise gaps where an additional row improves the filling, then decorate the lower sections with grouped beads and individually attached pearls. The focus is on making practical placement decisions within the floral design.
Materials to Prepare
Embroidery frame with your lily composition in progress
Lunéville hook
Embroidery thread
Loose sequins in your chosen colours
Loose beads
Larger pearls
Soft pads for holding your materials
Scissors
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
Continue filling lily petals using the Aari sequin technique.
Identify spaces where an additional sequin row improves coverage.
Adapt material placement to the shape of each section.
Attach several beads together on one working loop.
Place larger pearls individually in the lower sections.
Use plain stitches to move between petals.
Your Practice
Make a starting lock at the point shown in the lesson and begin filling the next lily petal with sequins. Check the remaining space as you work and add another row wherever it fits neatly within the shape.
Continue into the lower sections with beads and pearls. Pick up a small group of beads with the hook and secure them together on the working loop. As you move lower, switch to attaching larger pearls one at a time.
Once the central lower petal is complete, use a few plain stitches to reach the next petal. Repeat the same sequence across the remaining lower sections, then apply the demonstrated approach to the other lilies in your composition.
