Lesson 12.2

Daisy Embroidery: Beads, Cupped Sequins and Dimensional Details

In this lesson, you will work on the daisy using the Aari technique. You will decorate its petals by securing a bead and a cupped sequin together on each working loop. Plain stitches will help you move between sections before returning with embellishments. You will then begin the larger sequin-and-pearl details at the flower’s centre.

Materials to Prepare

  • Embroidery frame with your daisy motif in progress

  • Lunéville hook

  • Embroidery thread

  • Loose beads

  • Cupped sequins

  • Larger sequins

  • Pearls

  • Soft pads for holding your materials

  • Scissors

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Attach a bead and a cupped sequin together using the Aari technique.

  • Repeat the paired embellishments along the petal outlines.

  • Use plain stitches to move through selected sections.

  • Place embellishments close to or over an existing stitched line.

  • Transition from the petal decoration to larger sequin-and-pearl details.

Your Practice

Keep the front of the fabric facing you and make a starting lock at the point shown in the lesson.

Place one bead followed by one cupped sequin onto the hook. Slide both onto the working loop and secure them with a stitch. Repeat along the petal outline.

At the indicated point, continue with plain stitches. Resume adding beads and sequins along the demonstrated path, positioning them close to or over the existing stitches.

When this section is complete, make a short stitch at the flower’s centre and prepare a large sequin and a pearl for the next decorative detail.
