Lesson 11.2

French Lunéville Beadwork: Inner Fleur-de-Lis Outlines

In this lesson, you will continue decorating the fleur-de-lis using classic French Lunéville embroidery. Working from the reverse side of the fabric with pre-threaded nacre beads, you will outline the inner leaf sections and use short securing stitches to preserve their sharp edges. Plain stitches will connect the sections as you move from one leaf to the next.

Materials to Prepare

  • Embroidery frame with your fleur-de-lis motif in progress

  • Lunéville hook

  • Embroidery thread

  • Pre-threaded nacre beads

  • Bobbin for your threaded beads

  • Scissors

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Follow the inner leaf outlines using French Lunéville beadwork.

  • Supply individual nacre beads beneath the frame.

  • Preserve sharp edges with short securing stitches.

  • Move between leaf sections using plain stitches.

  • Continue the beaded outline across all three leaf sections.

Your Practice

Turn the frame so the reverse side faces you and prepare your threaded nacre beads. Make a starting lock at the point shown in the lesson, then embroider the inner outline of the first leaf.

At each pointed edge, add a short securing stitch before continuing with beads to keep the shape clearly defined.

Once the first section is complete, use plain stitches to move to the second leaf and embroider its inner outline. Repeat the connecting stitches to reach the final leaf, then continue the beadwork along its traced lines.
