Lesson 3.1
Dress Embroidery: Bugle Outlines and Interlacing Paths
In this lesson, you will begin embroidering the second side of your dress motif. Following the red directional guides, you will alternate bugle beadwork with plain stitches to move through the interlacing design. This approach helps you understand the stitching route and reach each decorative section without cutting the thread.
Materials to Prepare
Embroidery frame with your dress motif in progress
Embroidery hook and thread
Cut bugle beads
Large stones for the next stage
Soft pads for holding your materials
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
Outline the lower motif with cut bugle beads.
Follow directional guides through interlacing lines.
Use plain stitches to travel between beaded sections.
Return close to an existing embroidered line.
Secure the completed outline and keep the thread attached for stonework.
Your Practice
Begin at the indicated point on the lower motif and make a starting lock. Outline the first section with cut bugles, following the red directional guide.
At the marked points, switch to plain travelling stitches. Follow the demonstrated route upwards, then return down close to the previously embroidered line before resuming beadwork.
Continue alternating beaded sections and plain stitches until the outline is complete. Add a short securing stitch and leave the thread attached, ready to continue with large stones in the next part of the lesson.
